Remembering our Blessing

28 February will always be Blessing Day for us.

Auntie Brenda moved on to be closer with Christ in December but her memory was lovingly kept alive by Uncle Colin, Aunty Annette, Sanchia and Sharlene. He organised a lunch for 160 kids of a home that was attached to a Church that A. Brenda or as her new baptised name 'Blessing', belonged to.

I've always believed that the best feeling that you can ever experience, is when you give... holding nothing back. What I saw that day was nothing short of a blessed miracle. These kids came from different social and economic backgrounds. While 90% were Christian kids, other faith kids were welcomed to. Pastor John was explaining his mission and how Jesus mentions about helping your house first, before helping others.

I don't agree with his reasoning but as long as he is getting kids off the streets, offering them food, clothing, shelter and an education, who am I to judge?

We played the newspaper game with the younger ones and I was completely in my zone. And yet, I remembered my December 2010 promise.. There's no excuse good enough. Forgive me for being a coward.

A. Annette sat with Uncle's staff to help serve lunch which was a generous portion of Chicken Biryani, Chicken Kebabs, Raita, and sluurrpp vermicilli kheer!

Here's my testament to something beautiful that I experienced. First, all the kids stood in an orderly line. They prayed. With their eyes closed. Sang their prayerful hymn. I felt their belief.

Then they came in line to be served, waiting patiently while one line went and did not budge till the line had ended. When they were finished being served and headed to the mess to eat, they'd stop and ask me: miss, will you come join me. The first time I heard one of the small ones ask me, I was really touched. When each of them kept asking me, my face began to grow warm and I felt so blessed to have met these little ones.

Even when they were done eating, they waited patiently till all their brothers and sisters were done being served before they came for a second helping. Again, in a calm and composed manner.

It was sad to learn that they were being forcefully evicted from their home in May. This is the second time they were being asked to leave. They prayed and fasted the first time and had their prayers answered, the Pastor said.

The Pastor's youngest son, Pastor Dhiraj takes on his father's mantle and will guide the flock from this Church soon.

They are always looking for sponsors and benefactors who will offer them love, prayers and financial support and that in kind. If you'd like to help, visit their website: Living Hope

You don't really need to be rich to make a difference to someone's life. There are so so so many ways.

You just have to make time to do the things that are important. For these things there is no glory in the offering except for the kindness and mercy of God.

In this year of Mercy, as mentioned by our Holy Father, may your light shine and may you accept the help and kindess of others... you'll be grateful you did. I assure you.
